South West Series Wrap Up
There’s been a heap of racing over the past two weekends with lots of great results across all age groups from Hamilton riders. The top places in the South West Series was littered with Hamilton riders before the Frank Long on June 1 due to our riders supporting many of, if not all, races in the series. After the Frank Long/Goodall double-header weekend, Chris Kennett shot to the top of the leader board with a very handy 2nd place at the Goodall. Other riders to strengthen their hold on positions in the series were Rohan Garfoot, Dean Menzel and Scott Kruger. For the juniors Jessica McLaren was sitting on top of the U15/17 leader board with a very handy points lead on the rest of the field. U11/13 Millie Kruger was sitting fourth and needed a strong showing over the last two races.
The long weekend called and so did a tummy bug which wiped out Chris Kennett’s almost certain win for the series. The horses also called for Dean Menzel. This saw both riders drop down the leader board, this left Luke McLaren having to chase a gap of 8pts to Scott Kruger who was currently sitting in second behind Chris. The later only managed two finishes, collecting 10pts for each but Luke almost pulled off a dramatic last race effort to take the series finishing in 5th at the Woodrup. This left Luke just 3pts shy of pulling off a series win. Plenty of other top ten finishes from Hamilton riders at the Woodrup also pushed other riders well up the list, including Danny Hunt, with a tight finish for second at the Woodrup.

Club racing results
Race 6
The last two weeks has seen the weather decline and unfortunately rider numbers too. In race 6 Mark McLaren continued with his form improvement and another win. The sock draw should be overflowing soon with the additions of HCC socks from his wins! Visiting rider Harold Morton took out fastest time from scratch.
Race 7
Although being moved to a harder mark today, Mark showed further improvement riding off by himself and had chased down a minute and a half of his two minute gap by the 10k mark. He joined the 4th group not long after and worked well with the group rounding up all but one rider.
Nikki Menzel saw that the win was up for grabs and dropped her brother Rhyan to go it alone catching and passing Alan, Lisa and Cherie Kennet. She did this with around 10k to go and didn’t look back to take the win. The handicapper was sweating on Nikki’s win because if Mark took a fourth win in row Peter Noonan would have let the handicapper know he wasn’t doing his job well (because he can do it better!) 😉
Visiting scratchman Nicholas Kidman from Mt Gambier had a big task to chase 33min to limit. Nick took fastest time but In the end it was too big of a task. The middle markers certainly performed above expectations today by a good 5 minutes. Rohan Garfoot also battled hard from second scratch and could have done with a few mates to ride with.
We take a break now for two weeks of South West Series racing and then some cyclocross racing until mid July when we start to ramp things up again on the road. Looking forward to a return of healthy numbers to our racing then.

Cecil Shore Memorial Results
The club ran the first of it’s three South West Series races for 2019 on the 11th of May. Reasonable numbers entered the senior and junior racing with the club being well represented with our own riders. Thanks to photographers Sally McLaren and Heather Patzel for taking plenty of great shots around the course.

Wal Smith Memorial and Kelpie Classic weekend
Wal Smith
Luke McLaren is the “in form” rider for the club currently with his win at the Soldiers Memorial. He followed this up with 2nd placing in his group at the Wal Smith Memorial with Dean finishing 3rd in his group also. Callum Mirtschin topped of a very good ride to finish second in B grade, just missing out of a top ten finish by seconds.
Kelpie Classic
The Kelpie Classic held on Sunday after the Wal Smith had plenty of visiting riders mixing it with the south west riders. Millie Kruger was 3rd and fastest time in the U11/13 race. Senior racing took on a different look with grouped scratch races. Dean Menzel was the best placed Hamilton rider finishing 2nd in the C grade race.
It has been great to see the support that Hamilton riders are giving to races in our region and we look forward to this at our own Cecil Shore Memorial race on the 11th of May.
